House of Representatives 2026 | Senior-most member | Oath of office and secrecy
President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected senior-most member of the House of Representatives, Nepali Congress’s Arjun Narsingh KC, at Sheetal Niwas.
KC, 78, assumes a crucial interim role in the parliamentary process following the House elections held on March 5. As the eldest member of the House, he will preside over proceedings until a new Speaker is elected.
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, KC will administer the oath to the remaining 274 newly elected members of the House on Thursday.
The oath-taking comes as preparations are underway to convene the first meeting of the new House of Representatives. Until a Speaker is elected, KC will chair the sessions and oversee the lower house’s initial operations. The Constitution mandates that the Speaker must be elected within 15 days of the first meeting of the House.
