The stock market index declined by double digits on Monday, with the NEPSE index falling 21.15 points to close at 2,663.18 points.
Along with the decline in the index, daily turnover also decreased compared to the previous trading session. Shares worth NRs 4.07 billion were traded on Monday, down from the previous day’s turnover. A total of 107.61 million shares of 343 listed securities changed hands during the session.
Market sentiment remained weak, with most traded companies witnessing price declines. Share prices of 214 companies fell, while 58 companies recorded gains and five remained unchanged.
All 13 sectoral sub-indices ended the session in negative territory, reflecting broad-based selling pressure across the market. The manufacturing and processing sector recorded the largest decline, dropping 1.31%.
Everest Color emerged as the top gainer of the day, with its share price rising 15% to NRs 1,731.40 per share. Khanikhola Hydropower also gained strongly, increasing 10.07% to NRs 315.90 per share.
On the losing side, Saptakoshi Development Bank posted the steepest decline, with its share price falling 13.43% to NRs 831.10 per share. KBL Debenture 2086 also dropped 6.83%, closing at NRs 1,180 per unit.
Khanikhola Hydropower led the market in terms of turnover, with shares worth NRs 406.6 million traded. Siddhartha Bank ranked second with transactions worth NRs 167.7 million, followed by National Hydropower Company with turnover of NRs 165.7 million.
The decline in NEPSE indicates continued selling pressure among investors, although selected stocks managed to attract buying interest during the session.
