NEPSE falls for third straight session; turnover slightly improves

The benchmark NEPSE index fell for a third consecutive session on Wednesday, dropping 4.82 points to close at 2,598.89.

The index has been declining since Monday, when it fell 16.47 points, followed by a 9.62-point drop on Tuesday. Wednesday’s decline pushed the market below the 2,600-point mark.

Despite the fall in the index, trading turnover improved slightly. Total turnover reached NRs 4.76 billion, compared with NRs 4.65 billion on Tuesday. A total of 126.55 million shares of 352 securities were traded during the session.

Share prices of 109 companies increased, while 157 declined and 13 remained unchanged.

Sindhu Development Bank recorded the biggest gain, with its share price rising 14.37% to NRs 444.90. Sayapatri Hydropower followed, gaining 8.41% to NRs 580 per share.

On the losing side, Sanima Growth Fund recorded the steepest decline, falling 3.78% to NRs 9.41 per unit. Chir Khwa Hydropower dropped 3.60% to NRs 535 per share.

Ghalemdi Hydro was the most actively traded company, with shares worth NRs 384.8 million changing hands at NRs 271.50 per share. Its share price rose 7.31% from the previous session.

Peoples Hydropower ranked second in turnover, with shares worth NRs 228.3 million traded at NRs 333.80 per share.

Of the 13 sectoral indices, three posted gains while 10 declined. The Trading sector recorded the largest gain, rising 1.18%. The Hydropower and Mutual Fund indices also advanced, while the remaining sectors ended lower.

Overall, the market extended its three-day losing streak, with the NEPSE index slipping below 2,600 despite a modest improvement in daily trading turnover.
