NEPSE falls 13.82 points

Most sectoral indices declined, though turnover increased to NRs 4.62 billion amid active trading in hydropower stocks.

The benchmark stock index declined by double digits on Thursday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index falling 13.82 points to close at 2,654.15 points.

The market remained under pressure throughout the trading session, with all sectoral indices except the trading group ending in negative territory. The trading index gained 0.59%, while banking, development banks, finance, hotels and tourism, hydropower, investment, insurance, manufacturing, microfinance, and other sectors recorded losses.

A total of 347 securities were traded on Thursday, with 108.04 million shares changing hands. Share prices of 202 companies declined, while 64 companies advanced and 10 remained unchanged.

Despite the drop in the NEPSE index, market turnover increased to NRs 4.62 billion from NRs 4.40 billion recorded on Wednesday.

The hydropower sector led trading activity with transactions worth NRs 2.47 billion. Commercial banks recorded turnover of NRs 498.2 million, followed by development banks at NRs 310 million and finance companies at NRs 270 million.

Ridi Power Company recorded the highest turnover, with shares worth NRs 472.4 million traded. Ankhukhola Hydropower followed with NRs 265.9 million in transactions, while Solu Hydropower recorded turnover of NRs 233.7 million.

Upper Lohore Khola Hydropower Company was the top gainer of the day, hitting the positive circuit with a 15% rise to NRs 407.20 per share. Kalanga Hydro gained 4.62%, while Sanigad Hydropower increased 2.46%.

On the losing side, Snow River Falls recorded the biggest decline among listed companies, falling 5%. Joshi Hydropower and Agriculture Development Bank also posted notable losses.

The decline came a day after NEPSE gained 4.79 points on Wednesday to close at 2,667.97 points. Thursday’s session showed continued investor activity despite the broader market weakness.
