The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) extended its decline for a third consecutive trading session on Tuesday, with the benchmark index falling 5.30 points, or 0.20%, to close at 2,594.27.
Despite the drop in the index, market turnover increased significantly compared to Monday’s session to NRs 4.10 billion from NRs 3.23 billion. A total of 10.04 million shares of 357 listed securities changed hands through 46,589 transactions.
Market breadth remained negative, with 187 companies recording losses, while 78 advanced and 12 remained unchanged.
Sarbottam Paints posted the biggest gain, rising 14.99% to NRs 1,054.70 per share. Crest Micro Life Insurance also climbed 14.95% to NRs 1,253, with both stocks hitting the positive circuit limit.
Dhaulagiri Laghubitta recorded the steepest decline, falling 10.07% to NRs 1,034.20 per share. The 7% Nabil Debenture 2089 also dropped 5.07%, closing at NRs 1,030.
Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower led the market in turnover, with shares worth NRs 900.79 million traded at NRs 439 per share, down 4.80% from the previous session. Reliance Spinning Mills followed with turnover of NRs 177.1 million at NRs 2,727 per share.
Of the 13 sectoral indices, only Development Bank and Non-Life Insurance advanced, gaining 0.08% and 0.36%, respectively. All other sectors closed lower, led by Finance, which declined 0.91%, followed by Hotels and Tourism at 0.71% and Trading at 0.57%.
The total market capitalisation stood at NRs 4.46 trillion at the close of trading.
