The stock market closed slightly lower on Monday, with the NEPSE index declining 2.25 points to 2,641.58.
Trading activity, however, picked up significantly, with total turnover reaching NRs 5.52 billion, up from NRs 4.27 billion in the previous session. Investors traded 119.32 million shares of 350 listed securities.
Market breadth remained negative, as 201 companies saw their share prices decline, while 72 gained and five remained unchanged.
Sarbottam Paints was the top gainer, rising 15% to NRs 456.20 per share. Mountain Everest Power also jumped 14.99% to NRs 524.60, hitting the positive circuit limit.
On the losing side, First Microfinance posted the steepest decline, falling 6.63% to NRs 775 per share. Mahila Laghubitta followed with a 6.57% drop to NRs 1,195.
Of the 13 sectoral indices, five advanced while eight declined. The Manufacturing and Processing index gained the most, rising 1.30%, while the Finance index fell the most, dropping 1.14%.
Reliance Spinning Mills led the market in turnover, with shares worth NRs 1.386 billion changing hands at NRs 1,841.60 per share, an 11.17% increase from the previous session.
Solu Hydropower ranked second with turnover of NRs 384.4 million, followed by Ridi Power with NRs 164.4 million.
The session showed a marginal decline in the broader market despite stronger trading activity and increased investor participation.
