The stock market closed lower on Monday, with the NEPSE index falling 16.47 points, or 0.62%, to 2,613.33 points.
Trading activity also eased slightly from the previous session. Total turnover stood at NRs 5.38 billion, compared with NRs 5.44 billion in the previous trading session.
A total of 357 securities changed hands through about 58,500 transactions, involving approximately 13.18 million shares.
Market breadth remained weak. Share prices of 223 companies declined, while 50 advanced and six remained unchanged.
Of the 13 sectoral indices, 12 ended lower, while the trading sector was the only gainer. The non-life insurance index posted the steepest decline, falling 1.20%.
Among individual securities, KBL Debenture 2090 gained 12.17%, while Laxmi Sunrise Debenture and Prime Bank Debenture rose 10% and 8.83%, respectively.
On the declining side, Hathway Investment Nepal suffered the largest drop, falling 10.58% to NRs 405 per share. Emerging Nepal declined 9.92% to NRs 496, while several other securities also recorded significant losses.
Himalayan Distillery recorded the highest turnover of the session, with shares worth Rs 358.2 million traded at NRs 1,323 per share. Its share price increased 0.84% from the previous session.
Shivam Cements ranked second by turnover, with transactions worth approximately Rs 297.8 million at NRs 695.10 per share.
Overall, Monday’s session was marked by a broad-based decline in share prices, despite total market turnover remaining above the NRs 5 billion mark.
