Kathmandu this week: Rock performances and poetry sessions

After seven years of construction, Nepal inaugurated its first modern road tunnel on Monday marking a new milestone. While the nation celebrates this long-awaited achievement, Kathmandu has another exciting lineup of events happening this week. 

From multiple rock bands live performance to poetry evening, theatre performances, and yoga retreat, there is plenty to explore this week. Here's a look at what's happening around Kathmandu.

Jolene

Jolene, a theatrical production presented at Kausi Theatre follows Mira, a devoted housewife who discovers her husband’s affair with a woman named Jolene and the changes it brings to their life. Written by Budhi Pokhrel and directed by Rishav, the play blends melodrama, musical theatre, tragedy and horror. 

The play has been running at the theater since July 24 and will continue till August 14.

Sabdakiri Raw Session

If you enjoy poetry or are simply looking for a quiet musical evening filled with poetry sessions, Shabdakiri Raw Session is taking place at Attic Restaurant and Bar, on the first of August. The event brings together six poets for live recitations, accompanied by live music and meaningful conversations.

Axix band live 

The legendary rock band “Axix” is back for a live performance. Since its formation in 2003, the band has won over generations of Nepali music lovers with hit songs like Adhuro Prem, Muskan, Ek Choti, and Mero Prem.

Rock Junction: The Edge x Chumbak

The rock music lineup continues this week. Two of Nepal’s popular bands, The Edge and Chumbak are set to perform live at XO Club. The Edge band continues to be loved for hit songs like “Nachaheko Haina Timi Lai,” “Samjhine Mutu” which remain fans' favourites even today. Meanwhile, Chumbak has quickly made its mark on Nepal's modern rock scene. 

Experience a mix of nostalgia and new-age rock this August 1. The event is organised by Thamel Mailung Entertainment.

Yodda live

Alongside the rock vibes, rap fans have something to look forward to as well. Nepali rapper and hiphop artist Yodda from Pokhara is set to take the stage with popular tracks like “Kharab Bani” and “Katha”. 

After spending 16 years in the UK, Yodda returned to Nepal to pursue his passion for music and has since become known for his meaningful lyrics and powerful storytelling through rap.
