Heavy to very heavy rain forecast in Western Nepal

Monsoon conditions are expected to remain active across Nepal over the next three days, with widespread cloud cover and rainfall forecast across much of the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon low-pressure line is currently around its average position in eastern Nepal and slightly north of its average position in the west, close to the country.

Rain is already being reported in several areas, with moderate rainfall observed across much of Karnali and parts of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Most parts of the country will remain cloudy during Friday, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in many mountainous and hilly areas. Several Terai areas are also expected to receive moderate rain. Heavy rainfall is possible at isolated locations in Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. One or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim could receive very heavy rain.

Overnight, moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is likely in some mountainous and hilly areas. Heavy rain could occur at isolated locations in the hills of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

On Saturday, cloudy conditions will continue nationwide, says DHM. Some mountainous and hilly areas may receive moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms, while parts of the Terai are also likely to experience moderate rainfall. Heavy rain is possible at isolated locations in Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Lumbini.

Monsoon activity is expected to continue till Sunday, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms forecast in many mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim. Parts of Koshi and Bagmati are also likely to receive rain. Heavy rain is possible at isolated locations in Gandaki, Karnali, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim.

Authorities have warned of potential flooding, landslides, debris flows and soil erosion, particularly in areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim that could experience very heavy rainfall.

The adverse weather may affect daily life as well as agriculture, tourism, health, road travel, mountaineering and air transport. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow the latest weather updates from the department.
