Another landslide has struck Rolpa as relentless rainfall continues across the district, while the death toll from the devastating landslide in Thawang Rural Municipality-5 has reached 10.
The latest landslide occurred in Sunchhahari Rural Municipality-2, where a house in Falbang was buried, killing a 65-year-old woman, Lali Gharti Magar. Two other people from the same house are missing.
Another resident, an approximately 60-year-old man from Gitte in Sunchhahari-2, was also reported missing after his house was hit by a landslide.
Police and local authorities are searching for the three missing people.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the landslide that swept through Kotlabara village in Thawang Rural Municipality-5 has risen to 10. The disaster buried homes and livestock sheds after heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening, initially leaving 13 people missing.
Ten bodies have since been recovered, with some carried downstream into neighboring Pyuthan. Three people remain missing.
Two survivors, Himal Pun Magar, 22, and Sanjay Gharti Magar, 25, were seriously injured and transferred to Butwal for further treatment.
Rescue teams from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army and local communities are continuing the search. Persistent rain, swollen rivers and the threat of additional landslides have made the operation difficult.
Similarly, a separate landslide in Tamsu, Triveni Municipality-9 in Bajura has killed one, two injured. The deceased is a 20-year-old girl.
The latest incidents have heightened concerns over the growing landslide risk across western Nepal amid continued monsoon rainfall, and raised critical questions about disaster prevention and preparedness in the country.
