1,357 dead; 5,326 missing: NDRRMA latest update

The Bhotekoshi floods have left 1,357 dead and over 5,000 missing, says the latest update released at 1:59 pm Tuesday by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). Human remains have also been found at various locations among the recovered bodies.

According to the Authority, the identities of 102 of the recovered bodies have been established and the remains have been handed over to their families. Around 5,326 people are still reported missing following the flood. Of those missing, 2,860 are from Rasuwa, 1,981 are from Nuwakot, and approximately 587 are foreign tourists, the Authority said.

6,827 people injured in the flood have received medical treatment, according to the update: 327 were treated at 10 different hospitals, 3,404 were treated through the Nepal Army, and 3,096 through the Armed Police Force.

The Authority said that 39 holding centers have been established in the affected areas, accommodating 3,533 people. Of these, 669 are in Rasuwa, 2,651 in Nuwakot, and 213 in Dhading.

For rescue and relief operations, the Nepal Army has conducted 1,157 helicopter flights, the private sector from Kathmandu has conducted 129 flights, and the Armed Police Force has conducted 203 flights.

The government has provided cash relief of NRs 10 million to Rasuwa, NRs 10 million to Nuwakot, and NRs 5 million to Dhading. A total of NRs 135 million in relief has been provided to 15 local governments in the affected areas.

According to the Authority, the affected areas currently have 50,000 liters of diesel, 18,000 liters of petrol, and 18,000 liters of aviation fuel in stock. A total of 457 cooking-gas cylinders have also been provided at subsidised rates.

Regarding electricity supply, the Authority said that electricity service has been restored to 78% of households in Rasuwa, 96.7% in Nuwakot, and 99.8% in Dhading.

The Authority said that more than 150 personnel have been mobilised through the Ministry of Health to provide psychosocial counseling services to people affected by the flood.
