Kathmandu this week: Theatre, poetry, art, and innovation

From a poetry and ghazal evening to three days IT workshop and theatrical play and multiple art exhibitions, Kathmandu’s cultural calendar stays packed for June 15-21.

With the FIFA World Cup continuing to capture the attention of audiences around the globe, June has been buzzing with energy. Kathmandu's cultural scene is no exception, offering a packed calendar of events and experiences across the city.

From art exhibitions and literary gatherings to workshops and theatre performances, there is plenty to explore this week. Here's a look at what's happening around Kathmandu.

Workshop: 3 Days to the future

Kathmandu Business Campus is organising a three days hands-on workshop aimed at providing participants with exposure to the fields of IoT, AI and Cybersecurity. The workshop is specifically designed for +12 graduates and will help them explore exciting career opportunities in the IT industry. 

Participants can expect engaging activities, fun games, prizes, and an opportunity to enhance their skills. The workshop will be held from 17th of June to June 19.

Shabdakiri Saajh

Shabdakiri Saajh, an open literary platform that celebrates stories, poetry and emerging voices is back with the 25th edition of poetry and ghazal session. The event takes place on the first Saturday of every Nepali month bringing together writers, poets, and thinkers to share their voices and creative works.

Archetype

Gallery 108 brings “Archetype”, a solo exhibition by Krishna Gopal Shrestha. Inspired by his upbringing in Sankhu, the exhibition draws from the archetypal imagery of Kathmandu’s ancient settlements, iconography of deities, stone sculptures and ancient manuscript paintings. 

The exhibition is expected to take visitors on a journey through history, mythology, and collective memory presenting timeless images rediscovered for a new generation. 

The exhibition will run from 12th June to 16th of July.

Lahuri Bhainsi

The week’s lineup of events also include a theatrical play. 

“Lahuri Bhainsi” is a play that explores the lives, struggles, dreams, and social realities of Nepali rural society. 

The story follows a small family, Lukhure, Ghainti, and Pode and their dream of improving their lives by purchasing a buffalo. However, their aspiration is shattered by the entrenched power structures of society. Through their journey, the play offers a poignant reflection on the social and economic realities of rural Nepal.

This week marks the final week of the play’s run.
