The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index continued its downward trend for the fourth consecutive trading session on Tuesday, shedding 6.31 points to close at 2,705.45.
The benchmark index had already declined by 12.26 points on Monday, following losses of 4 points on Friday and 8.14 points on Thursday. Although the market opened in positive territory on Tuesday, it quickly turned negative and remained under pressure throughout the session, touching an intraday low of 2,701 points.
Market turnover also declined compared to the previous session. Shares worth Rs 4.04 billion were traded on Tuesday, down from Rs 4.41 billion on Monday. A total of 10.7 million shares of 355 listed securities changed hands during the day.
The majority of listed companies ended in the red. Share prices of 177 companies declined, while 80 advanced and 15 remained unchanged.
Most sectoral indices closed lower, with losses recorded in banking, development banking, finance, hotels and tourism, hydropower, investment, manufacturing and processing, microfinance, non-life insurance, and other sectors. Only the trading sector posted gains.
Despite the overall market decline, some stocks recorded significant gains. Newly listed Sopan Pharmaceuticals hit the positive circuit limit, surging 15 percent to Rs 703.10 per share. Apollo Hydropower also climbed 14.98 percent to Rs 602.40 per share.
Among the gainers, Dolti Power, Bungal Hydro, and Menchhiyam Hydropower posted notable increases. On the losing side, Sayapatri Hydropower fell 4.90 percent, followed by declines in Unique Nepal Laghubitta, Kalinchowk Hydropower, and Reliance Spinning Mills.
In terms of trading volume, Ankhu Khola Hydropower Company led the market with transactions worth Rs 319.9 million. Siddhartha Bank, Rawa Energy, Reliance Spinning Mills, and Bungal Hydro were among the other actively traded stocks.
